ABOUT THE UVONGO FLEA MARKET – Along the KZN, South coast
This tourist attraction is a ”must visit” venue, open every Saturday and Sunday morning, weather permitting.
The Uvongo Craft and Flea Market is a community market run by the Margate and Uvongo Rotary Club, and has been in exsistane since 1988.
In 1998 vendors finally found a permanent location opposite the Douglas Michell Sports Ground
Today the market provides a livelihood for over 200 stallholders, their staff and weekend site employees.
The stall rentals provide funds benefital to the local community and are generated for upliftment projects, such as crèches, youth development, housing, health and adult literacy initiatives in disadvantaged areas.
The market is unique inasmuch that it comprises mostly handmade crafts and has often been described by visitors as ”the best they have seen”.
One can pick up anything from handmade arts and crafts, clothing and accessories, to toys and tools, pre-owned goods to African crafts, and so much more.
A tea garden and several other food stalls provide sustenance for visitors and the area is wheelchair friendly. Strategically placed benches offer a resting place under the trees.
While browsing up and down open walkways of roofed and open stalls, an open-air restaurant awaits one providing a wonderful area to relax with friends, listen to live music, and inspect your bought products while catching up with friends in a weekly outing.
Don’t forget to take home tasty convenience foods to use in your self-catering unit or back home.
There is ample parking available.
